Who’s ready for another year of celebrity encounters, cosplay craziness, merchandise browsing & meetings of like-minded comic fans at pop culture conventions?

I know I am, and thankfully 2019 is shaping up to be a busy one for Australia’s pop culture scene.

Throughout the year, comic and fantasy followers have a lot to look forward to including the ever-popular Supanova and Oz Comic-Con (although we don’t know the dates for it yet), which will no doubt deliver some awesome guests. There’ll also be a few celebratory events such OZSCAPE3 – a two-day Farscape gathering that’ll coincide with the show’s 20th anniversary.

Without dragging this intro on too much longer, here’s a list of 9 pop culture conventions in Sydney, Australia to add to you 2019 diary:

1. FINAL FRONTIER (2 March)

Final Frontier is described by organisers Culture Shock Events as a “SciFi Convention celebrating Star Trek and the new Star Trek-like series, The Orville. So far, they’ve managed to sign up The Orville‘s Mark Jackson (Isaac), Star Trek: Discovery‘s Sam Vartholomeos (Ensign Darby) and Star Trek: Voyager‘s Tim Russ (Tuvok).

2. MADMAN ANIME FESTIVAL (16-17 March)

Grab your Sailor Scouts (yeah, Sailor Moon will always be my favourite anime) and head to the International Convention Centre where you’ll see some the BEST anime cosplay in Sydney, meet creators and introduce yourself to the ‘voices’.

3. OZSCAPE3 (23-24 March)

Nice play on words for this Sydney-based Farscape convention, which will coincide with the show’s 20th anniversary (shut up!). Returning to Australia for the two-day event will be Ben Browder aka John Crichton along with his papa on the show Kent McCord aka Jack Crichton. Couldn’t be more excited for this one!

4. OZUTERIA CON (13 April)

An unofficial gathering of anime fans where they can chat, debate and dress up as their favourite characters.

5. SUPANOVA (21-23 June)

Guess what’s back, back again. Supanova’s back, tell a friend. Yep, the convention will return again in 2019 and although it’s too soon for organisers to reveal guests, we can assume that they’re going to as amazing as previous years. Looking forward to more updates.

6. WHO’S WHO (10 August)

Doctor Who fans will have the opportunity to celebrate all things blue, rectangle and time travelling during the one-day event, Who’s Who. Guests so far include Caitlin Blackwood who played young Amelia Pond, Dan Starkey who portrayed Strax and Graeme Harper who is apparently the longest serving crew member on the show.
