To say the mid-season finale of Vikings left Ragnar with a fair bit of unfinished business would be an understatement.

Following his defeat in Paris, the king went off on an extensive journey of ‘rediscovery’ (polite way of saying he ran away).

One large time jump later, and Ragnar returned to Kattegat in the last few minutes of the mid-season finale to a few irritated sons, one pissed off wife and some pretty confused subjects. And while he may have a fair bit to deal with at home, it looks it won’t be enough to keep him idle on his throne for too long.

According to an update from the History Channel, when season four returns late November, Ragnar will travel back on over to England where he’ll reunite with his counterpart in Wessex, King Ecbert.

A lot has changed since the pair last came face-to-face, including the assassination of several Vikings by order of the English leader, Athelstan‘s death and the birth of the priest’s child, Alfred. PLUS, who could forget the Queen of Mercia, Kwenthrith, mothering Ragnar’s seventh offspring, Magnus.

That’s going to be one overwhelming visit.

Earlier this year at San Diego Comic-Con, creator and writer, Michael Hirst, said he’s keen to see how the relationship between the two leaders “pans out”.

“If I was a fan of the show and not the writer, one thing I’d really like to see is another meeting between King Ecbert and Ragnar,” he said.

Other things viewers can look forward to during the next 10 episodes, which Hirst described as “monumental”, include Bjorn’s journey through the Mediterranean and Ivar the Boneless’ emergence as “the most feared warrior of all time”.

Katheryn Winnick, who plays Lagertha, also revealed at Comic-Con that fans can expect “one epic scene” between her character and Ragnar’s current wife, Aslaug.

She said she didn’t want to give too much away, but said she’s really excited for everyone to see the confrontation.

“I don’t think Lagertha is a revengeful person, she’s trying to do what’s right for the people and believes Kattegat is her home and should be ruled properly,” she said.
