Marvel’s super Netflix team, The Defenders, is now complete with the final hero cast last week.
The entertainment giant revealed Game of Thrones alum, Finn Jones, will step into the role of Danny Rand for the fourth Marvel/Netflix series, Iron Fist.
Joining Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, Iron Fist is the final member of The Defenders, an eight-episode mini-series which will be released after the first solo season of each hero (and the second season of Daredevil and possibly Jessica Jones).
Although he’ll replace the Game of Thrones swords with his fists and kicks, Wired reports that the new role will not take Finn away from his part as Loras Tyrell in the fantasy series’ sixth season, which commences in April this year.
Joining Finn on Iron Fist is Executive Producer and showrunner, Scott Buck from Dexter and Six Feet Under.
Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb, said Buck’s take on Iron Fist “knocked us off our feet” and will deliver “another great series in the ongoing story of The Defenders“.
“I’ve always been drawn to writing complex, intriguing characters, and that’s what most excites me about the opportunity to bring Danny Rand and Iron Fist to life with Marvel on Netflix.”
– Scott Buck, Iron Fist Executive Producer
Marvel’s summary of Iron Fist reveals Rand will return to NYC after “missing for years” where he will fight against corruption using his “incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery”.
The first season is expected to be released later this year with 13 episodes.
