“Look…at…me…” he whispered.

“The green eyes found the black, but after a second, something in the depths of the dark pair seemed to vanish, leaving them fixed, blank, and empty.

“The hand holding Harry thudded to the floor, and Snape moved no more.”

Harry Potter fans around the world are in mourning this week over the talented, Alan Rickman.

While best known to many as the man who brought Severus Snape to life, Rickman lit up cinema with his acting abilities and distinctive voice for years.

We take a look back at some of our favourite characters played by Rickman. Of course he starred in many more, but these are just a few:

7. “Yippee-ki-yay, mother fuck”

Alan Rickman

His role as Hans Gruber in Die Hard alongside Bruce Willis almost had us cheering for the bad side.

6. “I’ll cut your heart out with a spoon!”

Alan Rickman

LOL how could we ever forget those curls and moustache! While we never really rooted for him as Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood Price of Thieves, we loved his ruthless rage.

5. “Give me an occupation, Miss Dashwood, or I shall run mad.”

Alan Rickman

His golden locks look better than mine :). We think he did a standout job as Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility and we loved how he had every young lady screaming over gorgeous looks.

4.  “All I’m missing is the high heels!”

Alan Rickman

RuPaul eat your heart out (JOKES)! Rickman proved he’s up for anything when he dressed in drag while playing Eamon de Valera in Michael Collins.

While his role in the movie was smaller than expected, he definitely did bring life to the flick as a supporting character.

3. “You broke the ship, you broke the bloody ship!”

Alan Rickman

Rickman had us in stitches as the highly irritated Alexander Dane in Galaxy Quest.

Many sci-fi fans will hold this one close to their hearts.

2. “You’re in a merry mood today, Mr. Todd.”

Ohhh how we hated to love him in Sweeney Todd.

Rickman played the despicable Judge Turpin so well we were cheering for Depp to slice his throat.

1. “Always” and of course his most remembered role as Severus Snape in Harry Potter

Alan Rickman

Was he evil? Was he heartless? No, he was actually protecting everyone around him in his own heartbroken way.

R.I.P Alan Rickman, you will be missed but you’ll live on through all your incredible work.

As we raise our wands to the sky let us remember a beautiful quote by Albus Dumbledore “death is but the next great adventure”.

Which of Rickman’s many roles was your favourite and why?
