If you enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy and love a little Doctor Who, then Legends of Tomorrow may just be the TV show for you.

According to CW’s head honcho, Mark Pedowitz, the newest addition in the DC Multiverse is ‘fun’ and ‘big’ and combines elements of the hit movie and cult TV series to create a show that will “take your mind off the troubles of the world”.

“It’s lighter than Arrow and The Flash,” he said.

“It has great actors with great auspices. I’ve seen four hours… it’s a lot of Guardians of the Galaxy meets Doctor Who.”

We’re not sure how Marvel will feel about the comparison to the DC series, but we imagine they’ll say something along the lines of: imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Legends of Tomorrow will make its debut in Australia on 22 January. It features well-known characters from Arrow and The Flash, along with a few new ones.

Among the bigger names in the Avenger-type group include Captain Cold, who made several guest appearances as Barry Allen’s rival in The Flash and Dr Stein who makes up one half of Firestorm.

Arrow’s Sara Lance aka White Canary was resurrected in the Lazarus Pit for the new series and there’s also the clumsy tech genius, Ray Palmer aka Atom.

Based on a two-minute trailer released late last year, we already know the new series uses elements of time travel merged with futuristic technology and quirky one liners.

The series will premiere on 22 January at 7.30pm on Fox8.
