The force awakened last week with record numbers, according to latest box office figures.
The seventh instalment in the Star Wars franchise, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is expected to have made some $238 million in tickets sales in the US and Canada alone – topping the current record holder, Jurassic World, which pulled in $208.8 million earlier this year.
Worldwide, the movie is expected to bring in $517 million for the first five days in the cinemas – making it the second biggest opening weekend in Hollywood’s history after Jurassic World.
But that’s not all. The film also broke records here in Australia, earning $18.9 million as well as the UK where it made $48.9 million and Russia with some $12.3 million.
It was a great start for the movie, which is not only the first Star Wars flick in over a decade, but the first to be released under Disney.
Star Trek’s J.J. Abrams was brought on board to direct the seventh movie and has received rave reviews for a fun and enticing flick.
