Wells is back and Barry officially found out in Season 2 Episode 4.

But is he the same revenge-driven Wells we met in Season One?

Maybe he is or maybe he isn’t.

Earlier this year, Executive Producer, Gabrielle Stanton, said the character would be back but in a ‘very different’ way.

“Harrison Wells will be back, but he’s going to be a very different Harrison Wells than we’ve never seen before,” she said.

“We’ve got other worlds and other timelines.”

The Flash Dr Wells

So what could this mean?

Well, in Season One we found out that Wells wasn’t actually THE Dr Harrison Wells – he was a Reverse-Flash/scientist from the future named Eobard Thawne.

Thawne was impersonating Wells to get close enough to Barry so he could kill him and return to his time. We all know how that ended – his ancestor Eddie Thawne killed himself which erased Thawne from existence.

That was the end of Harrison Wells/Eobard Thawne in our Flash’s Earth and time.

Now, thanks to the many ‘doorways’ connecting to other versions of Earth, Wells is back.

Barry The Flash

But what type of Wells are we dealing with? Does Barry need to fear him?

Here’s what we’re thinking – when EP Stanton said Barry will meet a Wells we’ve never seen before, maybe she means he is the ACTUAL Harrison Wells and not the version inhabited by Thawne.

This would mean he has no reason to want to kill Barry.

So why did he travel through the doorway?

Perhaps it was an experiment (he is a scientist) or maybe he’s seeking out assistance from the team at S.T.A.R Labs to help close the bridge to his Earth.

Or maybe he too is out to stop Zoom.

They’re just our ideas. It would be interesting to see Tom Cavanagh return as a genuinely good guy and watch Barry work closely with a different version of the man he hates.

What do you think?
