Fans of the most celebrated British Secret Service agent, James Bond, will converge in regional NSW next month to see the man himself (well, one version of him).
The up and coming city of Goulburn will play host to the inaugural Spyfest- a (fingers crossed, annual) celebration of everything espionage.
At the centre of the festival will be non other than George Lazenby, Australia’s one and only 007.
The news was confirmed to GDU this week by Goulburn Council’s Manager of Strategic Marketing Sarah Ruberto.
“George is confirmed his flights are booked, he’s getting on a plane and coming to Goulburn,” she said.
Lazenby, who was born and raised in the regional city, stepped into 007’s suit and tie back in 1969.
He replaced Sean Connery to officially become the second Bond.
Critics at the time deemed Lazenby’s ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’ as the ‘best entry of the long-running James Bond series’.
Despite the positive feedback, the Australian actor decided to quit the role after the release.
While Spyfest’s origin lies in Lazenby and James Bond, the festival will also celebrate other spy hits such as Austin Powers, Maxwell Smart, Spy Kids, Bourne and more.
“Goulburn is embracing all things spy, Bond and also all the movies and actors that have promoted the genre on TV and film,” Sarah added.
“It’s going to be quite a cool event.”
The inaugural Spyfest will be held on 25-26 September.
Will you be adding Spyfest to your list of things to do in September?
